Ashley’s Favorite Finds at the YLNI Farmers Market in Downtown Fort Wayne
Summertime is almost here in Northeast Indiana and downtown Fort Wayne has much to offer in the warm months ahead. With events and activities every weekend, the streets of downtown Fort Wayne begin to come to life, and in particular Barr Street.
Located in the heart of downtown, Barr Street hosts the YLNI Farmers Market (formerly the Barr Street Market) every Saturday from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. from May 20 through September 9.
The market offers personally grown or made products from Allen and surrounding counties. There is a wide variety of food including breads, crepes, and jam, craft items, pet treats, wine, and so much more. A great plus is that the YLNI Farmers Market is pet friendly!
Here are a few of my favorite vendors to check out:
- Fawnly Watercolor Prints has the cutest decorative watercolor prints. The owner, Marie Heimann, has a great selection of different size prints, coffee mugs, greeting cards, and postcards. If you are into floral designs and showing off your Indiana pride, check her out next time you are at the market!
- For those of you who loved Beet Street Juicery when they were located in their brick and mortar on Berry Street, you will be happy to know they sell their delicious juices at the market! Beet Street offers a variety of freshly pressed juices made with regional organic fruits and vegetables. Be sure to try one of their juices the next time you head to the market – my favorite is the Linus Von C.
- Katie’s Breads is a go-to for different types of fresh breads and fried pies. She offers rhubarb, tomato, dill, as well as loaves for the non-adventurous type. Whether you want a loaf to share or one for yourself, Katie has what you are looking for!
- Fresh produce and flowers are all over the market, as the season goes on the product will change! Be sure to arrive early for the best selection of your favorite fruits and vegetables as well as fresh cut flowers. Naturally Homegrown Farm and Hardy’s Farm Market are just a couple of produce options.
Whether you are there to just walk around or pick up some new things to try, the YLNI Farmers Market is a summer must do for everyone!
