Spring has sprung, weather is warming up, and that means something very special here in Fort Wayne: the start of festival season!  It's no secret that Fort Wayne boasts a busy and entertaining summer festival circuit and last year we were lucky enough to add yet another fun festival to our already impressive list.  It's appropriately called Fort Wayne Music Festival!

2017 marks the second year of this annual 5-day, festival.  It'll be held at Headwaters park from Wednesday, May through Sunday, May 14, each day with it's own theme.

  • 5/10-Faith and Family Night 6-10 p.m.
  • 5/11-90's Night 6 p.m.-12 a.m.
  • 5/12-Electric Spring 6 p.m.-12 a.m.
  • 5/13-Rock on the River 2 p.m.-12 a.m.
  • 5/14-Country Jam 2-9 p.m.

There is something for almost everyone and tickets are only $10, aside from Country Jam which is absolutely FREE this year!

"Last year's festival attracted more than 10,000 to Headwaters Park across 3 days with attendees from 113 cities across 14 states," said Jake Slater of Fort Wayne Music Festival.  "Pending weather, our goal this year is 20,000 across the five days of the festival."

So what does it takes to plan this caliber of an event?

According to Jake, they begin seeking sponsorship in September and hold multiple meetings per week from then until the week of the show.  They start scheduling artists at the beginning of the year.

"We've added a substantial amount of marketing and media partners to market the event, and started marking this year's event 30 days earlier than last year," he said.

All in all, Slater said it's about a 9-month process to coordinate a 5-day show.  For repeat attenders, the planning pays off! Last year's festival was vibrant and lively and it doesn't seem like things are slowing down.
