Northeast Indiana Takes Over East Coast during Major Markets Trip
A delegation of 11 Northeast Indiana business leaders and economic development professionals, led by the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership, recently traveled to New York, New Jersey and Philadelphia to conduct the region’s second “Major Markets" trip. The goal was to connect with corporate decision makers and aggressively expand Northeast Indiana’s presence in this strategic East Coast market. Over the course of four days, the team completed 43 meetings with business decision makers in the three East Coast markets. The trip capitalized on the recently-launched air service from Fort Wayne International Airport to Newark Liberty International Airport. Additionally, the Regional Partnership collaborated with Vera Bradley to host a reception at Vera’s new flagship SoHo store. Participating in the trip were members of the Regional Partnership, Greater Fort Wayne Inc., Whitley County Economic Development Corporation, Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), Indiana Michigan Power and Ambassador Enterprises. Big Goal Hosts Regional Education Summit
In October, the Big Goal Collaborative hosted the 2016 Big Goal Education Summit. More than 130 Northeast Indiana leaders in education, business and nonprofit gathered to hear a presentation on the “Thriving Communities, Thriving State” recommendations surrounding education and workforce development. Attendees also came up with strategies surrounding three themes: access to education, the completion of post-secondary opportunities in the region and the retention of that talent in the region. After the Summit, many of the participants joined a meeting with regional County and Career Success Coalitions and Indiana Commissioner for Higher Education Theresa Lubbers.
