Engage Indiana

Leveraging Business Leadership as a Force for Good in Northeast Indiana

What does it take for companies to attract talent? What role do companies play in creating a place where talent wants to live and work?

These are questions to be discussed at the first Engage Indiana event in the state hosted by the Indiana Economic Development Corporation (IEDC), Indiana Business Journal (IBJ) and Inside INdiana Business

The event is from noon to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 29 at the Grand Wayne Convention Center, 120 W. Jefferson Blvd. Fort Wayne, with registration and networking starting at 11:30 a.m.

DRIVING ECONOMIC GROWTH

Northeast Indiana’s C-suite executives, community leaders and business professionals are invited to Engage Indiana to hear directly from keynote speaker Secretary of Commerce Bradley B. Chambers. Chambers discusses how companies can advance the state’s economic growth, including:

  • INSPIRING businesses to think differently about community engagement within the organization.

  • BUILDING revenue while supporting Northeast Indiana’s vibrant communities.

  • ENGAGING colleagues to position Indiana as a national leader in using corporate social responsibility as a catalyst for business and talent attraction and community building.

The keynote presentation is followed by a distinguished panel on how companies can take their engagement to the next level to help attract talent and work toward place-making—two key priorities for the state’s Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative (READI) grant program.

“Northeast Indiana is a hub of innovation and development,” said Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership President and CEO Stéphane Frijia. “The state’s READI grants will fund everything from an airport expansion and technical upgrades to affordable housing. This is just the beginning of the growth we have planned for our community.”

The panel is moderated by Division President of Inside INdiana Business Gerry Dick. Panelists at the event are:

  • Stéphane Frijia, President & Chief Executive Officer Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership

  • Deborah R. Garrison, Ph.D. Vice Chancellor & Dean Indiana University Fort Wayne

  • Edmond O’Neil, III President & Chief Executive Officer Northeast Indiana Works

  • Dan Starr President & Chief Executive Officer Do it Best

  • John E. Urbahns President & Chief Executive Officer Greater Fort Wayne Inc.

GROWING WITH VISION

Northeast Indiana’s READI application, titled “Growing with Vision,” showcases Northeast Indiana’s strong economic transformation in the last decade thanks in part to opportunities such as the Regional Cities Initiative. The plan explores the significant opportunities ahead for the region, addressing the top three focus areas for economic impact: workforce growth, downtown vibrancy, and entrepreneurship and innovation.

The Northeast Indiana Regional Development Authority and Local Economic Development Organizations (LEDOs), which serve as the READI steering committee, received over 130 applications. Across the region, the READI funding request totaled $439,513,646.88. Most projects submitted through the proposal process were included in the final RDP.
