Huffington Post Visiting Northeast Indiana

September 27th, 2017

Coverage of Voucher Program Includes Fort Wayne

Fort Wayne is one of 23 cities on the "Listen to America: A HuffPost Road Trip" tour that will seek out personal stories and views to gain a better understanding of Indiana’s voucher program six years after it launched.

The “Listen to America” tour is designed to capture the “concerns, hopes and dreams of everyday Americans,” according to a news release.

Huffington Post, which also is called HuffPost, will send reporters and producers with a mobile studio and work with The Journal Gazette on news coverage. In each city, reporters will connect with a nonprofit, business or community group and also provide an opportunity for residents to share their views or stories.

Reporters will examine how Indiana's voucher program is helping a widening group of parents send their children to private schools and how some of those schools are accepting public money. They'll also share the stories of students, profile two schools and more.

"The ultimate goal is to accurately, humanely and emotionally capture the concerns, hopes and dreams of everyday Americans," the news release said.

HuffPost will also host a panel discussion on vouchers at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 4 at Ivy Tech, 3701 Dean Dr., Fort Wayne, IN. The event will be moderated by HuffPost Reporter Rebecca Klein.

Community members can share their story at the “Listen to America” bus from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on Thursday, Oct. 5 at the Allen County Public Library Plaza, 900 Library Plaza, Fort Wayne.
