Defense & High-Tech Communications

Northeast Indiana is an ambitious and driven region. We are remarkably strong in our determination to turn ideas into opportunities and innovations. Our industry leaders at BAE Systems, Raytheon, Riverside Manufacturing and Harris Corporation bring in millions of dollars every year, employ thousands of specialized personnel, and develop products that change our world. It’s an exciting time for this industry, and Fort Wayne is an exciting place to be.

In 2015, BAE Systems unveiled a $39 million state-of-the-art facility in Fort Wayne, citing Indiana’s environment and workforce as its reason to invest in the region. The same year, Raytheon in Fort Wayne secured a $36 million contract with the U.S. Army to upgrade communication systems.

Vehicles

Northeast Indiana and Fort Wayne have a history of innovation and manufacturing in the automotive sector. We’ve produced some of the first cars—such as the Auburn, Cord, and Duesenberg—as well as some of the earliest trucks by International Harvester. Today, the Fort Wayne area continues to have a very high concentration of vehicle manufacturing making up more than 20 percent of the manufacturing employment in the region.

The Fort Wayne region continues to have a very high concentration of vehicle manufacturing, with those jobs making up 19.9 percent of the manufacturing employment compared to 13 percent for the United States.
