Northeast Indiana is working hard to attract the skilled workforce necessary to propel the region into the future. Attracting military veterans is at the core of this mission. The technical and leadership skills earned during military service are in high demand by employers in Northeast Indiana.
Northeast Indiana’s future-focused economy is anchored by the defense sector, high-tech communications, specialty insurance, logistics and e-commerce, as well as the medical devices and technology sector. These industries are all hiring and looking for qualified candidates like you.
The technical and leadership skills earned during military service are in high demand by employers in Northeast Indiana.
Here are a few things military veterans should know about working in Northeast Indiana:
1.) Indiana has the lowest veteran unemployment rate in the nation, according to the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics.
Local Veteran Service Officers, along with the state and local governments and nonprofits, do everything they can to help make sure that those who have served our country in uniform have the jobs they want and deserve once they leave the service. The state of Indiana has passed a Veterans Preference Law, which allows employers to give preference to veterans when considering candidates for open jobs.
2.) Northeast Indiana is committed to turning the valuable experience of military veterans into marketable job skills.
Our region’s 18 colleges and universities work together with nonprofits such as WorkOne, Indiana Career Connect, and Northeast Indiana Works to offer veterans the certification programs, professional development, and job search assistance they need to put their skills to work.
3.) The Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership is here to talk.
In conjunction with the Northeast Indiana Base Community Council, the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership will assist military veterans with questions about employment, training and educational opportunities, quality of life, and community resources.
4.) The Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership offers a searchable jobs page.
Thousands of jobs are waiting for qualified candidates, and new jobs are added every week. The easy-to-navigate web portal is searchable by job title or industry.
5.) Local veterans groups will be there when you need them during your job search.
Local chapters of Team Red, White & Blue, Team Rubicon, as well as the Northeast Indiana Military Assistance Network are available for advice, camaraderie, and networking.
