News Release

Ivy Tech Community College−Northeast announced a partnership with American Honors, a two-year honors program that prepares students for transfer to four-year universities. The program is scheduled to begin in the fall of 2013. American Honors at Ivy Tech Community College−Northeast is a selective college program that provides qualified students seeking a bachelor’s degree an opportunity to complete their first two years of college at a reduced cost versus a traditional four-year college or university. This program provides a rewarding honors-level learning experience at an excellent value.

“We are creating opportunities through affordable honors-level education, and are committed to our students’ success,” said Chris Romer, president of American Honors.

The classes will be delivered in an innovative hybrid (online and in-person) learning environment. This instruction is live – live video lectures with community college professors and live interaction with peers in the classroom. There will also be many in-person components of the program, including a student success course as well as team activities and student-driven activities.

“Ivy Tech−Northeast has been exploring the possibility of offering an honors program for a few years,” said Robyn Boss, director of admissions at Ivy Tech Community College−Northeast. “This partnership is the perfect solution, as it will provide an affordable option to those seeking advanced coursework.”

Classes are also designed to facilitate honors-level discussions and activities. Instructors are hand selected based on experience, performance and student feedback. Students will take a mix of American Honors courses and traditional Ivy Tech classes at the College.

Benefits for students include:

• A high quality education with advanced coursework for students
• Classes taught by talented professors
• New opportunities to transfer to universities across the country
• A supportive community committed to student success, including dedicated honors advisors

The selection process examines candidates’ leadership abilities, extra-curricular activities, academic achievements, standardized test scores, and commitment to the ideals of the program.
