We've taken a look at some pretty large businesses on "Your Story Made Here," but this week we are going small. An entrepreneur in Markle has taken her hobby and turned it into a business.

Jessica Hunnicutt is a mechanical engineer who works for Parker Hannefin in New Haven. Her job requires focus and detail:

Jessica Hunnicutt says: " I was looking for a hobby, any job can be stressful so I was looking for a creative outlet and I design items at 500 plus parts so being able to design just one piece seemed appealing to me. "

Jessica started designing jewelry and having her designs printed on a 3-D printer!

Jessica Hunnicutt says: Anything and everything seems to be printable. If you come up with an idea, if you see something in a magazine, normally, you can draft that and see what it's gonna look like."

"My first piece was a 3-D printed birdhouse and I printed that for my mom because she loved birds and I got it and held it for the first time and I thought 'this is amazing that I can do this' and people commented on it and I can up with another idea and it was addictive after that."

The process begins with an idea. You open up the 3-D modeling software and you draw.

Jessica says: "Next step is you upload it to the 3-D hosting website and they will evaluate it and make sure that your geometry isn't too thin that it will break. They go through a series of checks to make sure that everything is ok and then you roder it in the material that you choose and it will be back to you in 2 to 3 weeks."

Jessica's designs are in gold, silver platinum, nylons, porcelain and other materials

She started with a hosting company.

Jessica says: " You set up your designs and you price everything and you figure out what your designs are and what materials to use. And then I made my own website so I could showcase just my designs and it's taking off. "

Jessica has high hopes for her business, Which includes more than just jewelry. There are novelty items, phone cases, vases, and custom made items…which is where she sees future growth.

Jessica says: " Branding is a very big deal for any businesses and I can help with that. A custom product would be if someone wants a logo made into a pendant, or a bracelet with some sort of sentimentality to it… if there are fundraising events."

The future of 3-D printing is mind-boggling. They are making everything from guns… to cars….but Jessica Hunnicutt sees beautiful possiblities in geometry. And her story is taking layer at a time!
