Symposium Highlights Housing Needs

NEI Housing Symposium

Earlier this month, the Northeast Indiana Strategic Development Commission (SDC) hosted a housing symposium, marking the launch of the SDC’s Regional Housing Strategy. This strategy focuses on addressing housing needs and promoting population growth across the 11-county region.

The SDC’s ambitious five-year plan aims to enhance housing infrastructure by adding new single-family and multi-family units while strengthening the region’s development capacity. This initiative is part of a broader strategy to boost population growth, raise wages, and increase credential attainment, ultimately creating a vibrant and thriving community.

Housing is a critical issue nationwide, and Northeast Indiana is no exception. This media wrap, which includes stories, podcasts, and videos, helps spread the word about our efforts.

  • The Journal Gazette published a story on Northeast Indiana receiving a $30-million grant for strategic development.
  • A Fox 55 interview on the SDC’s $10-million investment to address the housing shortage.
  • Club 720 President and CEO Heather Presley-Cowen was a guest on the NEI Pioneer Podcast.
  • An op-ed on the H.O.M.E. Strategy was published in the Journal Gazette.
  • The Journal Gazette provided coverage of the symposium.
  • Finally, the symposium’s keynote speaker Charles Marohn, founder and president of Strong Towns, was a guest on the NEI Pioneer Podcast.

As we partner with groups like SDC and RDA to execute innovative ideas, our Business Development (BD) team utilizes them to attract business to the region. By sharing these pieces beyond our 11-county area, our BD team can promote Northeast Indiana as a region that gets things done.

There will certainly be more to come when it comes to housing. The NEI team and its partners are committed to ensuring our region is a place that isn’t afraid to tackle large issues.
