Northeast Indiana’s Creative Economy Strategic Plan represents an exciting milestone for the region and a bold investment in the people, places, and ideas that make our communities vibrant. Designed to strengthen the region’s creative sector across all 11 counties, the plan highlights the immense value of arts, culture, music, design, media, and entrepreneurship as drivers of economic growth, talent attraction, and community pride.
The strategy builds on Northeast Indiana’s momentum as a place where creativity and innovation intersect. By supporting creative professionals, fostering collaboration, and elevating regional assets, the plan aims to create new opportunities for businesses, artists, makers, musicians, and storytellers alike. From placemaking and tourism to workforce development and entrepreneurial growth, the initiative reflects a shared vision for a more connected and dynamic regional economy.
A particularly exciting outcome of this effort has been the remarkable engagement generated throughout the application process. Thanks to the outreach, coordination, and relationship-building efforts led by NEI staff, the region saw an impressive 42 applicants participate in the initiative. Those applications represented 14% of all applications submitted statewide and accounted for 20% of the total request value — a tremendous showing for Northeast Indiana.
These numbers are more than just statistics; they demonstrate the region’s readiness to dream big and work together. The strong response speaks to the enthusiasm of local organizations, communities, and creative leaders who recognize the importance of investing in quality-of-place initiatives and the creative economy. It also reflects the effectiveness of the collaborative groundwork laid by NEI staff, whose efforts helped connect stakeholders, communicate opportunities, and encourage participation across the region.
What makes this achievement especially meaningful is that it showcases Northeast Indiana’s growing reputation as a region that embraces creativity as an economic advantage. The level of participation and investment requested signals confidence in the future and reinforces the idea that arts and culture are essential components of regional development.
As the Creative Economy Strategic Plan moves from vision to implementation, the excitement continues to build. The partnerships formed, ideas generated, and momentum created through this process will continue to shape the region for years to come. Northeast Indiana has proven that when communities rally around creativity, the possibilities are truly inspiring.
A special thank you to Arts United and their staff for their efforts in coordinating the educational opportunities that made this exercise so successful.
