This summer, NEI had the privilege of hosting the annual Indiana Power Partners (IPP) Conference in Fort Wayne, Indiana. The IPP Conference brings together economic development organizations and utility providers from across the state to engage directly with national site consultants by sharing Indiana’s story and exploring the evolving landscape of power and infrastructure.
Traditionally held in Indianapolis, the conference took a new direction this year. In an effort to showcase more of Indiana, the IPP committee issued a statewide request for proposal, inviting regions to apply for the opportunity to host. We were proud to submit a strong proposal, and even more proud to be selected as the first host outside of the state capital.
The keys to our successful bid were our region’s high quality of life, proximity to a regional airport, and a vibrant, walkable downtown. A true testament to the years of investment and collaboration within the region.
To offer attendees a well-rounded experience of the region, guests were invited to explore either the serene LC Nature Park or the iconic Auburn Cord Duesenberg Automobile Museum in Auburn. These activities were followed by a rooftop reception at Birdies Bar at The Bradley Hotel, offering panoramic views of downtown Fort Wayne and a relaxed atmosphere for networking. The evening concluded with a private dinner featuring a collaborative menu created by two of Fort Wayne’s top chefs—Magali Ort of Baker Street Steakhouse and Alejandro Ivey of Proximo—showcasing the region’s culinary talent and hospitality.
In today’s competitive landscape, electricity is more than a basic site requirement. It is a strategic asset in economic development. Companies are seeking locations with reliable, affordable, and scalable power, alongside growing demand for renewable energy options and grid resilience. For economic developers, strong partnerships with local utilities are essential. These relationships ensure energy infrastructure aligns with business needs and signal a community’s readiness to support new investment.
By working hand-in-hand with utility providers, communities can offer customized energy solutions, streamline project timelines, and position themselves as forward-thinking, investment-ready destinations. The Indiana Power Partners Conference plays a vital role in fostering these connections. It brings together utilities, economic development professionals, and national site consultants by creating a platform where Indiana’s strengths can be showcased and translated into real opportunities. When consultants leave with a clear understanding of the infrastructure and collaboration available, they’re better equipped to match future projects with the infrastructure put into place here in Indiana.
