During Thursday’s Regional Opportunities Council (ROC) Meeting, NEI soft-launched Pioneer: Precision Motion, a new economic development strategy under the Pioneer Starts Here platform.

The strategy brings together several of Northeast Indiana’s strongest industries, including advanced materials, industrial motion systems, sensing and controls, defense technology, orthopedics, precision medical devices, and space-tech manufacturing.
Northeast Indiana is one of the country’s most manufacturing-intensive regions, anchored by companies that produce highly engineered products and systems.
Precision Motion is designed to build on this foundation and position Northeast Indiana as a national destination for precision-engineered products and systems spanning advanced materials, defense, industrial motion, orthopedics, and precision medical manufacturing.
The strategy gives site selectors, corporate real estate advisors and target-sector employers a clear reason to consider Northeast Indiana: a regional ecosystem of precision-engineered capabilities that few other regions can match at scale.
NEI will work alongside the Regional Development Authority (RDA), Northeast Indiana Strategic Development Commission (SDC), and local economic development organizations (LEDOs) across all 11 counties.
That collaboration will provide a common framework for aligning business development, capital planning, workforce investment, and local site strategy throughout the region.
The process included a regionwide SWOT analysis and a county-by-county fit analysis to identify the industries where Northeast Indiana has the strongest authentic market advantage.
The result is a strategy rooted in the region’s existing strengths — while creating opportunities to connect those capabilities in new ways.
With the support of the State of Indiana and continued collaboration among regional and local partners, Pioneer: Precision Motion provides a framework for Northeast Indiana to strengthen its economy, attract investment, and create new opportunities for businesses and residents across all 11 counties.
