In a landmark move that cements Warsaw, Indiana’s status as an emerging global hub for medical technology innovation, Plug and Play has inaugurated its first Indiana office on the Zimmer Biomet campus. This venture is set to spark unparalleled growth in the MedTech sector, leveraging the area’s rich orthopedic legacy and vibrant innovation and education ecosystem.
The collaboration and roadmap as founding partners includes Zimmer Biomet, Paragon Medical, OrthoPediatrics, Indiana Economic Development Corporation and Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership, with the aim to mirror Silicon Valley’s innovation success, transforming Warsaw into a pivotal center for medtech advancements. With support from key figures like Indiana Governor Eric Holcomb and Zimmer Biomet CEO Ivan Tornos, the initiative is poised to attract a significant number of pioneering startups, fostering a dynamic environment of growth and innovation.
Additionally, the 10 Northeast Indiana Colleges and Universities network partners are also committed to fostering innovation, entrepreneurship and experiential learning among its member institutions.
The foundation for this partnership was laid by the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership (NEI), starting with an initial meeting during the SelectUSA Investment Summit in Washington D.C., in May 2023. This initial pitch, followed by strategic dialogues and visits to Silicon Valley, and across Northeast Indiana, led to the formal announcement of this groundbreaking collaboration.
During, the ribbon-cutting event, Ivan Tornos underscored this collaboration’s ambitious vision, emphasizing its purpose, which is to position Warsaw as “the boldest city in MedTech.” This ambitious goal aligns with a community-wide shared commitment to drive advancements in healthcare and support the development of cutting-edge technologies.
The partnership’s collaboration was highlighted as a powerful synergy between the region’s industry expertise and Plug and Play’s proficiency in fostering startup growth. This union aims to accelerate the development of new healthcare solutions and technologies, reflecting a shared vision for innovation and growth within the medical device field. The first cohort considered for this partnership brings to the table a range of innovations poised to reshape various aspects of healthcare: from image management, osteoarthritis treatment technologies, new fracture treatment solutions, AI-based technology for pre and postoperative care, disruptive joint replacement implant technology, new shoulder joint replacement implants, innovative treatment for cartilage damage and much more.
