Sonya started with the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership in February 2014 as the Millennial 2020 Specialist leading the Emerging Leaders Alliance. She is now Director of Talent Initiatives and oversees our work-based learning initiatives such as the Regional Internship Program for Employers, 21st Century Talent Regions, and the Strengths Network to name a few. 

She also serves as the Regional Partnership’s primary point of contact for many statewide talent efforts including her roles on the guiding team of the Indiana Talent Networks and the employer advisory board for Indiana She is a driving force behind Northeast Indiana’s designation as a 21st Century Talent Region and is leading the organization’s efforts to help stakeholders in each of our 11 counties create community-specific talent attraction, development and connection strategies.

Sonya was honored in 2020 by the Indiana Chamber of Commerce for her work in developing a regional internship program. She was also recognized by KPC in its list of 40 under 40 winners in Fort Wayne. 

Sonya has witnessed a dramatic positive change in the region, which has inspired her community- and talent-development work with young professionals.

Sonya’s favorite job is being a dog-mom and cuddling with her pitbulls, Norma and Lucius.

Sonya attended South Side High School in Fort Wayne and graduated from Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW) with a bachelor’s degree in interpersonal communication and media and public communication. She also holds a master’s degree in professional communication from IPFW.

Sonya teaches a speech course at Purdue Fort Wayne. Sonya serves on the board of the Positive Resource Connection, a nonprofit that provides HIV education, prevention, testing, and linkage to care for persons living with HIV/AIDS, their families, and loved ones. She has also served as a Big Sister through Big Brothers Big Sisters for the past six years.

  • When not working or volunteering in the community, Sonya spends her time on the trails running and exploring the outdoors.
  • Sonya’s favorite job is being a dog-mom and cuddling with her pitbulls, Norma and Lucius.
  • Sonya enjoys traveling around the world to explore new cultures. In recent years she’s been to China, Norway, Spain, and France.
  • Sonya’s love language is cooking. She spends her Sunday’s cooking for her friends and family. To her, there is nothing better than sharing a meal with those that you love.
