Located at the intersection of U.S. 20 and State Road 127 in northeast Indiana, the City of Angola serves as the county seat of Steuben County. In the center of this small city is a well-known soldiers monument that pays homage to the 1,278 Steuben County residents who fought in the Civil War. Recent investment in downtown Angola spurred the opening of the Brokaw Movie House, as well as nearby restaurants, cafes and shops. Together with nearby Fremont, Angola, was named a top-15 finalist in America’s Best Communities Award competition. The contest provides money to the grand-prize winner for community revitalization. Angola is also the home to Trine University. Founded in 1884, Trine University, formerly known as Tri-State University, offers degrees in the arts and sciences, business, education and engineering.


The Town of Fremont is a small community of more than 2,000 residents situated in the northeast corner of the state. Fremont is the second-largest community in Steuben County and is located just over one mile south of the Michigan state line and approximately five miles west of the Ohio state line. The Town of Fremont lies in close proximity to primary interstate highways, with easy access to major Midwest cities. Interchanges to Interstate 69 and 80/90 are within two miles of Fremont. The Outlet Shoppes at Fremont is a popular shopping destination. Pokagon State Park, four miles west of Fremont, is known for recreational activities, including swimming in Lake James, camping and tobogganing in the winter months. Inside the park, the Combination Shelter (known locally as the CCC Shelter) is on the National Register of Historic Places.

Steuben County is also home to five other vibrant towns: AshleyClear LakeHamiltonHudson and Orland. Ideally located in the tri-state area, the county provides businesses a comprehensive logistical network and solid infrastructure. The Indiana Toll Road (I-80/I-90), Interstate 69, and U.S. 20 are valuable transportation assets. The Indiana Northeast Railroad services the rail needs of the county. The Tri-State Steuben County Airport is the nearest general aviation airport, and Fort Wayne International Airport is the nearest international airport.
