The Pioneer Eats Here series headed south to Wells County. When the voting opened, it was clear that there were a couple of establishments people favored, both located in Ossian. Mi Casa was able to overtake Crimson House in the last few days of voting to be named Wells County’s favorite restaurant.
This marks the third Mexican restaurant chosen as a winner, and as a lover of Mexican food, I had no complaints about trying a new spot in this style. Mi Casa started in 2014 and has become a long-standing favorite in the area.
During our visit, the staff couldn’t have been more friendly as we took advantage of the weather finally breaking and sat on their patio. It provided a nice, relaxing setting and allowed us to not think about work while also doing a little bit of work while eating our lunch.

If you’re ever swinging through Ossian, I would recommend Mi Casa. Here are our thoughts on the meal and overall experience at Mi Casa!
Hannah – Chimichanga Lunch Special
We were so lucky to have gotten a beautiful spring day when we visited and got to enjoy their outdoor patio space. The table got guac and chips to share and it was a very fresh start to the meal. I ordered the lunch beef chimichanga. It came covered in delicious queso with rice and beans on the side. It was the perfect portion for lunch and tasted even better with the warm sun on the patio.
Callie – Tacos
I ordered the Tacos Mexicanos, one with grilled chicken, one with carnitas, and one with carne asada. As expected, they came with cilantro, onion, and limes on the side, and I also tried out their homemade hot sauce. The sauce was certainly hot, but I enjoyed having it on the side to add a nice kick here and there.
The real star was the churro bites! They came warm with sauces on the side. I stay away from dairy, so I enjoyed them as is and still loved my experience!
Brice – Manager’s Burrito Special
This burrito was recommended to me before our visit, and I’m happy I chose it because I was stuffed by the end of it. I went with steak as my protein, and it was cooked perfectly. Steak can get chewy if cooked improperly, but that was not the case here. The rest of the filling was a delicious combination of rice, beans, and cheese, plus queso on top of the burrito!
Ashton – Pollo Zomby
We kicked things off with their chips, salsa, and Guacamole Casero – a fresh, housemade guacamole with avocado, tomato, onion, cilantro, jalapeños, lime, and salt. The salsa was tangy, and the guac was smooth and cool. For my dish, I had the Pollo Zomby, which consisted of grilled chicken breast and grilled shrimp, topped with sautéed onion and smothered in a rich white cheese sauce, served alongside rice, beans, and flour tortillas. It was a hearty, satisfying plate that delivered on every level. The best part of the meal, though, was the churros. Served with both chocolate and caramel dipping sauces, they were perfectly crispy and absolutely delicious! On top of the great food, the service was also fantastic.
Team – Guacamole Casero & Churros
As everyone on the team mentioned, the churros were awesome. If possible, save room for this dessert.
“The star of the show was the dessert. They came out hot and crisp with a side of chocolate and caramel. Our table fought over who got to eat the last one,” Hannah said.
