Adams Center Road shipping facility plans 64 new jobs
Bob Caylor | The News-Sentinel
A shipping center along Adams Center Road near Paulding Road would bring 64 full-time jobs, paying an average of $50,000 a year, according to a request for tax abatement.
Transpoint Intermodal would invest $13.5 million in developing a 74-acre site and creating a transfer point at which shipping containers could be loaded from rail to truck or truck to rail. According to documents filed with the city of Fort Wayne, the equipment at the site would be purchased and installed between next November and the end of February.
Containers handled at the facility would primarily be used in exporting agribusiness and other products to Asia through ports in western Canada, the United States and Mexico.
If City Council grants the abatement the company is seeking, Transpoint would save $173,561 over the 10-year course of the abatement.
The application for abatement comes about nine years after an intermodal shipping facility was first proposed there.
