A more than century-old apparel company in Wells County is growing operations. Ossian-based Berne Apparel plans to invest $2.2 million to expand its facility in the Ossian Industrial Park and add a small number of jobs.

Rich Honig, chief financial officer for Berne, says the 60,000-square-foot addition will accommodate the company's "significant sales growth." Wells County Economic Development adds the addition will address the growing warehousing needs of the company. Berne's current facility totals 135,000 square feet.

Berne currently employs 48 full-time employees and plans to create 5-8 jobs as a result of the expansion. The Ossian Town Council has approved a 10-year tax abatement to assist the company with the project.

Berne Apparel was founded in 1915 in the city of Berne, Indiana and moved to Ossian in 2010.
