City seeks to buy buildings for park

DAVE GONG | The Journal Gazette

The Fort Wayne Parks and Recreation Department will make offers to purchase three buildings near Harrison Street to make way for a new city park.

The Board of Park Commissioners on Thursday authorized the department to make offers to the owners of the Ream-Steckbeck Paint Co. building, 200 W. Superior St., and the Cambray & Associates building, 312 S. Harrison St.

The planned park — which Parks Director Al Moll said is still in the early design stage — is a part of the city's ongoing riverfront development project.

The department is offering $447,500 for the Cambray & Associates building, and $818,000 for the Ream-Steckbeck building and an adjacent building with the same owner. The prices offered for the properties are the average of two appraisals on each building.
