Concert series returns to market riverfront possibilities

Greater Fort Wayne Business Weekly

Living Fort Wayne will bring music back to the riverbank this summer.

The group, as an arm of Young Leaders of Northeast Indiana, will host its third-annual outdoor concert series on the first Wednesdays of the summer months of June, July and August, said Laine Mello, one of the organizers.

Each date will feature an evening of performances by two local bands at the Headwaters Park West amphitheater. Local food trucks will also set up at the venue as part of the festivities, as well as other local groups and activities including free pontoon rides along the river.

The idea is to promote downtown riverfront appreciation and the possibilities to come from developing a new recreation destination, Mello said. The group will also promote social media interactions using the hashtag #RiverConcertsFW on Twitter.

The Living Fort Wayne concert series kicks off 6 p.m. June 1 with groups Trichotomous Hippopotamus and Legendary Train Robbers.

Headlining the other two dates are:

• Left Lane Cruiser and Unlikely Alibi on July 6, three days before the Three Rivers Festival launches and

• Secret Mezzanine and Farmland Jazz Band on August 3.

Sponsors for the series include Parkview Health, Downtown Improvement District, Sweetwater Sound Inc., Fort Wayne Metals, Orthopedics NorthEast, Lake City Bank and WMEE 97.3-FM.

Meanwhile, Electric Promotions kicked off summer concerts downtown with the Fort Wayne Music Festival, sponsored by Sweetwater, Electric Promotions said in a statement.

The three-day event began May 12 at Headwaters Park with each night dedicated to specific themes and featuring national acts.
