DeKalb County Project Lands Regional Cities Funding

INDIANAPOLIS - The YMCA of DeKalb County has received a major boost for its 38-acre expansion plans. The Indiana Economic Development Corp. has approved $947,000 in Regional Cities funding to help cover the cost of the organization's expansion in Auburn.

The $7.2 million project will establish the Northeast Indiana Regional Youth Development Complex, which will include seven collegiate-sized soccer fields, two football fields and a training area. It will also include an extension of the YMCA's fieldhouse, which will house an indoor pool, outdoor splash pad and playground.

"This youth development complex will not only be a regional draw for athletes from the tri-state area, but it will focus on developing character qualities in youth and building healthier, happier families, making Northeast Indiana an even better place to live," said Bob Krafft, chief executive officer of YMCA of DeKalb County.

Last month, the Northeast Indiana Regional Development Authority recommended the Regional Cities funding for the YMCA project, as well as a $10 million project for Fort Wayne's Embassy Theatre. The IEDC has not announced if funding for that project has been approved.
