Demolition begins for downtown riverfront park

Workers in a small front-end loader and small excavator began demolition today of the former Ream Steckbeck paints building in the 200 block of West Superior Street as they clear the ground for construction of the new Promenade Park along the downtown riverfront.
The equipment operators knocked out large windows in the front of the building and began pulling down pipe running along the ceiling inside.
The park eventually will occupy land along the north and south banks of the St. Marys River, including from the Historic Wells Street Bridge to Harrison Street on the south side of the river.
The park is scheduled for dedication in early 2019.
