FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) – It’s long been called the unofficial start to festival season in Fort Wayne.

Germanfest will open its tent at Headwaters Park Wednesday at 11 a.m. with ceremonial tapping of the keg.

Sunday, Monday and Tuesday Germanfest will hold cultural and musical events around the city.

Started in 1981, Germanfest was designed to bring a German folk festival to the Summit City. It quickly grew into one of the most well-attended events in Fort Wayne during the summer.

The Fort Wayne Männerchor/Damenchor hosts the opening ceremony at Park Edelweiss each year. The choir is the second-oldest singing society in Indiana.

A list of scheduled events can be found on the Germanfest website.
