10/26/2012

Indianas emerging wine industry is growing again. Briali Vineyards is set to open next week in Steuben County. The operators have been growing 11 grape varieties over the past seven years. Winemaker Brian Moeller tells Inside INdiana Business he lived in California's Sonoma Valley for several years and is bringing that experience to the Fremont operation.

The November 1 opening will follow the recent announcement of a DeKalb county wine operation's expansion plans.

Country Heritage Winery in LaOtto has an $825,000 project that includes plans to increase production and double its work force.

The Indiana Wine Grape Council told Inside INdiana Business in August many Hoosier vineyards are planting more grapes and more even wineries could be on the horizon.

The organization also points to the seven wines from the state that were up for top honors at this year's Indy International Wine Competition as a sign the state continues to gain credibility in the global wine industry.
