Ivy Tech Launching Training Program
INDIANAPOLIS -
Ivy Tech Community College is launching a two-year program to train students for careers in supply chain management and logistics. The IvyWorks program will begin in August thanks, in part, to a $120,000 gift from the JPMorgan Chase Foundation.
IvyTech says IvyWorks is a job-centered program that offers an Associate of Science degree in supply chain management and logistics. The program's curriculum was designed with the help of Conexus Indiana, the state's advanced manufacturing and logistics initiative. IvyWorks aims to help students find gainful employment and/or develop skills for advancement, according to IvyTech.
"Helping people develop the skills they need to compete for today’s jobs can transform lives and strengthen economies," said Al Smith, chairman of Indiana for JPMorgan Chase. "The IvyWorks program aligns with our goal of developing the talent of today with skills for tomorrow to keep Indiana vibrant and growing."
Kathleen Lee, chancellor of Ivy Tech Central Indiana, says the program's mission is to bridge the skills gap by partnering with industry leaders to provide industry-specific training. Ivy Tech says more than 5,000 manufacturing positions are being projected within the next year in central Indiana with a 20 percent growth in logistics employment over the next five years.
"This program is so exciting because it meets students where they are and gives them the tools and support system to get to where they want to be," said Kate Aguilar, who will be running the program for Ivy Tech. "We recognize that there are other programs that focus on Supply Chain Management and Logistics, but we are unique in that we offer the most affordable avenue and cohort-based learning so that students can network with each other while learning from leaders in these fields."
The program will have both online and face-to-face coursework, making it accessible to students throughout the state.
