Kekionga Cider Company, located off of Maysville Road in Fort Wayne, was recently recognized at GLINTCAP, the Great Lakes International Cider and Perry Competition. GLINTCAP is the world's largest cider and perry competition.
The cidery entered the first two ciders they ever made into the prestigious competition: Old Bicorne and Harmar's Defeat. Old Bicorne, the flagship cider of Kekionga Cider Company, was entered in the Modern Cider category. Harmar's Defeat, a tart cherry cider, was entered in the Fruit Cider category. Both won silver medals.
"We were glad to know that the cider we make can 'sit at the big boy table' and be a competitor within the industry," said Logan Barger, Head Cider Maker at Kekionga Cider Company. "We feel this is a big step for us knowing that we haven't even been open for a year and yet our ciders can be considered award winners."
According to GLINTCAP, ciders are judged on aroma, flavor, appearance, mouthfeel, and overall impression.
Kekionga Cider Company is located at 7358 Maysville Road in Fort Wayne. Hours are from 5-9 p.m. on Thursday and Fridays, 12-9 p.m. Saturdays, and 12-6 p.m. on Sundays.
