Companies get defense contracts

Staff, news services

Two northeast Indiana employers were awarded defense-related contracts Tuesday.

ITT Corp. was awarded a $13.75 million contract to provide support services for the Single Channel Ground and Airborne Radio System. Work will be performed in Fort Wayne and is expected to be finished by December 2013.

Erapsco Inc. has been awarded a $17.9 million contract to make 2,999 sonobuoys for the Naval Air Warfare Center Aircraft Division.

Sonobuoy sensors allow the Navy to detect, classify and locate other countries’ submarines during combat and peacetime operations.

The order exercises an option from a previously announced contract. The work is expected to be completed by March 2015.

Erapsco is a 50-50 partnership between Undersea Sensor Systems Inc. of Columbia City and Sparton Electronics Inc. of DeLeon Springs, Fla.

The contract calls for 45 percent of the work to be done in Columbia City and the rest in DeLeon Springs.
