Lutheran Hospital releases exterior look of downtown hospital

May 2nd, 2019

We are getting a look of what Lutheran Hospital’s downtown hospital will look like.

Lutheran Health Network released the design for Lutheran Downtown’s exterior Tuesday. Updates to the design include more windows, a mix of brick, stone, metal panels and an exterior insulation finish system.

Representatives from the health network say the windows will allow more natural light in, enhancing a healing environment. They also say the mix of materials will create a textured facade, helping to modernize the facility.

“The exterior design we’re sharing today blends classic and modern elements into a total package that fits well with other recent construction in downtown Fort Wayne,” Mark Medley, CEO, Lutheran Health Network said.

Lutheran Downtown Hospital will be five stories high and approximately 188,000 square feet. The new hospital is expected to be completed in late 2021 and open for patient care in early 2022.

The downtown facility is set to include:

  • a 19-bed emergency department
  • a six-suite OR
  • three cardiac catheterization labs
  • two gastroenterology suites
  • hyperbaric medicine and wound care
  • imaging services including MRI and CT
  • robotic-assisted surgery
  • laboratory services and
  • the regional burn center
