Manchester’s Master of Athletic Training program moves to city

Manchester University is adding more programs to its Fort Wayne campus next fall.

Moving its Master of Athletic Training program from North Manchester to the Summit City will allow the university to offer more opportunities to those students, Manchester announced Thursday.

“There is great potential to expand clinical experiences – including professional sports – in Indiana's second largest city,” the university said in a statement. “Athletic trainers are integral members of health care teams in high schools, colleges and universities, pro sports, sports medicine clinics, hospitals, military and industrial settings – all plentiful in Fort Wayne.”

The training program will join Manchester's graduate professional health science programs – a doctoral program in pharmacy and a master's program in pharmacogenomics – at 10627 Diebold Road on the city's north side.

Mark Huntington, dean for Natural and Health Sciences, and W. Thomas Smith, dean of the Pharmacy Programs, issued a joint statement.

“We are looking forward to having our graduate and professional health professions programs under the same roof, and to taking advantage of the opportunities for interprofessional development for students and faculty alike,” they said.
