Mayor Henry set to announce results of downtown arena study

FORT WAYNE, Ind. (WANE) Fort Wayne Mayor Tom Henry will announce whether the Downtown Arena Committee has recommended moving forward with plans to build an arena at a news conference scheduled for 1 pm at Sweetwater located on US 30. Sweetwater president and founder, Chuck Surack, is leading the committee made up of community and business leaders.

The proposed downtown arena would include about 5,500 seats, parking, restaurants and a walkway to the Grand Wayne Center with a cost of $48 million to $63 million. Those details were hammered out in an initial study of the viability of a downtown arena. Mayor Henry then created a committee to study whether such a venue would be financially viable.
