Fort Wayne -
A Fort Wayne-based entrepreneur has launched what the Northeast Indiana Small Business Development Center calls the first minority-owned medical device manufacturing company in the region. Victor Lopez, chief executive officer of Global Medical Industries Inc., says he expects the new company to grow from four to 12 employees by the end of the year.
The Northeast ISBDC says Global Medical, which is located at the Fort Wayne Urban Enterprise Center, will specialize in manufacturing cost-effective, complex implants and instruments, which include products for surgical procedures. The company will also have a smaller focus on supplying products for the aerospace industry.
Lopez received a startup grant from Indianapolis-based Elevate Ventures to help get his company off the ground as well as technical assistance from the Northeast ISBDC. The organization says Global Medical's certification as a minority-owned business will also provide opportunities for contractors to receive government contracts.
Global Medical will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony January 26.
