Mopar Certification Training Coming to Ivy Tech Northeast

Officials say a new partnership between Ivy Tech Community College Northeast and a major auto manufacturer will serve as "a next-generation employment pipeline." The agreement with Fiat Chrysler Automobile’s Mopar Career Automotive Program will be the third of its kind at an Ivy Tech campus in the state.

Ivy Tech Kokomo and Ivy Tech Southwest are also Mopar CAP partners. The certification focuses on service for Chrysler, Dodge, Fiat, Jeep and Ram vehicles.

As part of the agreement, all Ivy Tech Northeast automotive technology faculty members will become Mopar-certified instructors.

Program chair Bob Huffman says "we feel honored and excited to be entering this partnership. Not only will this opportunity give our students access to the latest automotive technologies as they are introduced for the market, but it can provide them with good-paying internships and strong leads for full-time employment following graduation."

Ivy Tech says the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics pegs the average salary for an automotive technician at a dealership at $40,650 a year.

FCA officials from the corporate office in Michigan are set Tuesday to formalize leadership and planning details on the Fort Wayne campus.
