Near-downtown health clinic to create 37 jobs
By Kevin Leininger | News-Sentinel
A proposed clinic at 508 E. Washington Blvd. would create 37 jobs and expand health-care options in the mostly low-income area east of downtown.
According to an application for a tax abatement to be considered by City Council Tuesday, Indianapolis-based Avenue Development LLC will spend $2.1 million to convert a vacant 15,000-square-foot building into a clinic paying average salaries of nearly $71 000. The developer will lease the facility to Oak Street Health, which serves primarily Medicaid patients. The clinic will also help patients manage their bills on line, will host community events and will serve as a warming center when necessary.
The clinic could open this fall.
Abatements temporarily reduce taxes payable on new equipment and building improvements. If approved by council, Avenue Development could save $73,595.
