New Haven receives $1M from INDOT for road improvements

NEW HAVEN, Ind. (WANE) The city of New Haven has received funding from the state for improvements to local roadways.

In a special presentation Wednesday at New Haven City Hall, INDOT Commissioner Brandye Hendrickson presented Mayor Terry McDonald with a “check” for $1 million – funding for road improvement projects in the city. The funds are a state-match earmarked for infrastructure improvements through Community Crossings, the state’s local road and bridge matching grant program.

New Haven was one of 121 towns, cities and counties to receive funding from the state. Some $160 million was available on a 50/50 matching basis, the state said.

“Investing in infrastructure results in smoother roads, better bridges and more sidewalks and trails,” said McDonald. “Beyond that, though, it results in a community better positioned to attract and retain jobs and a talented workforce. Funding from the State’s Community Crossings program makes it easier for New Haven and cities across Indiana to make these critical investments.

With the funding, New Haven has planned upgrades to a stretch of Pawnee Way north of Moeller Road, and the lengths of nearby Kirklynn Drive, Norland Lane, Greenmoor Drive and Country Knolls.

Along with New Haven, Allen County, the city of Fort Wayne, Noble County, the city of Angola and Marshall County received $1 million in funding from INDOT.

Adams County received $492,500, Auburn received $600,000 and Avilla received $450,000. Garrett received $499,463 and Kendallville received $577,699, while Kosciusko County received $997,028.

The city of LaPorte was also awarded funding on Wednesday in a separate ceremony.
