April 8th, 2019

The Journal Gazette

This April, NIPSCO will start construction to upgrade 157 aging utility poles and three miles of electrical distribution lines in downtown Waterloo, near West Maple Street and South Wayne Street. This project is the second phase of the Waterloo electricity upgrade and is part of the company’s ongoing long-term plan to modernize its energy infrastructure across northern Indiana. ARC American, an approved NIPSCO contractor, will be supporting the planned work. Modernization projects offer many benefits to customers, including safer and more reliable electricity service by identifying and eliminating recurring system failures as well as supporting future business expansion in Indiana.

Some lane closures may occur. Signs and detour routes will be posted ahead of time. Flaggers will be on site directing traffic during construction hours. NIPSCO will also continue to work with Town of Waterloo officials to minimize impact to customers in this area.

The project is expected to run through September, weather permitting. Crews will be working Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m. (EST), and may need to work weekends or evenings to honor customer appointments and deadlines.

Please exercise caution as you travel near any construction zone to ensure personal safety and the safety of construction crews working on this project.

NIPSCO appreciates the patience of the community during this important system modernization project that will provide future benefits to customers in northwest Indiana.
