ANGOLA — Questa Education Foundation is launching a Steuben County program.

The Steuben County Economic Development Corp. and the Olive B. Cole Foundation Inc. announced Thursday a financial support of the Questa Scholars Program. The Steuben County Community Foundation has joined in the effort by establishing an endowment for its long-term benefit.

The Questa Scholars Program is a loan available for moderate to middle-income individuals and families that assists in filling the financial gap for secondary education. The low-interest forgivable loans are unique to other loan and scholarship program offered and are funded by local foundations and support of community businesses and individuals. All money repaid to the loan fund recycles to support future Questa Scholars.

In the pilot year in Steuben County, four Questa Scholars will be selected: two individuals pursing associate’s degrees and two individuals pursuing bachelor’s degrees.

The EDC will fund two Questa Scholars pursing associate’s degrees at Ivy Tech Community College through the School of Applied Science & Engineering Technology and the School of Technology, with an emphasis on advanced manufacturing.

“This is our way of investing in students, preparing them for the economy of the 21st century, and also endorsing the Questa Education Foundation,” said David Koenig, EDC executive director.

Jennifer Danic, foundation president and CEO said, “The Steuben County Community Foundation is happy to support the Questa Education Foundation, as it is offering another avenue for Steuben County students to pursue secondary education. We have started an endowment fund at the community foundation to support the long-term sustainability of this program in our county.”

The Questa Education Foundation will match the amount to help kick off the fund. The goal is to grow the endowment in the county to fund more Questa Scholars in the future.
