Regional Partnership to Join IPFW on Taiwan Trip

Delegation seeks additional partners to join global alliance for technology

FORT WAYNE, IN-The Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership announced today that its president and CEO, John Sampson, will be joining a trip to Taiwan led by Indiana University-Purdue University Fort Wayne (IPFW). The purpose of the trip is to secure additional partners for the Global Alliance for Technology Transfer and Entrepreneurship (GATTE).

"IPFW is taking a leadership role in seeking out the new technologies for commercialization in the U.S. market," said Sampson. "This type of international collaboration will enable Northeast Indiana to become a top global competitor."

GATTE, the first partnership of its kind and size, was initiated as a result of a trip to Taiwan in September 2011. Initiated by IPFW and the Northeast Indiana Innovation Center (NIIC), the partnership allows for the stimulation of economic development in Northeast Indiana through the transfer and spin-off of technology developed through Taiwans university-based incubation centers.   "GATTE is unique in connecting our region to a global marketplace for new technologies," said Karl LaPan, president and CEO of the Northeast Indiana Innovation Center. "There is great promise in these relationships developing opportunities for entrepreneurs and companies of Northeast Indiana."

IPFW Chancellor Michael Wartell will lead the delegation with the support of the Northeast Indiana Innovation Center and the Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership. The delegation will visit multiple universities and business incubators seeking commercialization opportunities of technologies for the U.S. market.  Universities to be visited include National Formosa University (NFU), Southern Taiwan University of Technology (STUT) and the National Taipei University of Technology (NTUT). The trip is scheduled for February 24 - March 3.

The Northeast Indiana Regional Partnership was formed in 2006 to help build a globally competitive economy in Northeast Indiana. It is a public-private partnership focused on generating business leads and building regional capacity through product development and effective regional collaboration. In 2010, the Partnership launched Vision 2020 to bring the region together around five key areas for economic growth: 21st Century Talent, Competitive Business Climate, Entrepreneurship, Infrastructure and Quality of Life. Through its combined efforts in business development and capacity building, the Partnership supports its 10 member counties: Adams, Allen, DeKalb, Huntington, LaGrange, Noble, Steuben, Wabash, Wells and Whitley counties.
