The Fort Wayne Community Schools board has approved a measure that clears the way for a former high school property to be sold. Elmhurst High School, which closed in 2010 after decreasing funding forced it into consolidation, will be marketed with an adjacent, district-owned property.

The district held an auction in 2012 to sell off the equipment in the nearly 90-year-old building. When the school was closed, administrators had discussed a need for $15 million in impending cuts. It also discussed millions of dollars in upcoming maintenance needs for the aging structure.

During a school board meeting Monday night, our partners at WPTA21 report board member Mark GiaQuinta said the district will seek the highest bidder for the asset.
