Angola ranked in the top 20 micropolitan areas in the United States for economic development in 2016, it was announced today.

Angola tied for 18th on the Top 100 Micropolitans list from Site Selection magazine. It was the fifth year in a row Angola made the list and the sixth out of the last seven years.

In 2016, Steuben County had six projects that qualified to make this list, three of which were based in Angola.

Site Selection’s Conway Projects Database focuses on new corporate facility projects with significant impact, including headquarters, manufacturing plants, research and development operations and logistics sites, among others. It does not track retail and government projects, or schools and hospitals.

New facilities and expansions included in the analyses must meet at least one of three criteria: a capital investment of at least $1 million, create at least 20 new jobs or add at least 20,000-square-feet of new floor area.

A micropolitan, according to the U.S. Census Bureau, is a community of at least 10,000 people, but fewer than 50,000. The Site Selection magazine listing is based on business growth that meets one of three criteria: $1 million in new capital investment, 20,000-square-feet of new construction or creation of at least 20 jobs.

Site Selection magazine is a highly respected, internationally circulated business publication covering corporate real estate and economic development.
