Steve Teders was named Dekalb County Central United School District Superintendent Tuesday.

Teders will replace Dr. Sherry Grate who is
leaving the school district after 16 years.

Teders moves to the top job after serving as assistant superintendent for the last two years. He has been with DeKalb Central for almost 24 years. He has served as principal, assistant principal, middle school athletic director and teacher at various buildings for DeKalb Central during his tenure. Teders previously coached football, basketball and track.

“I’m passionate about the students and staff at DeKalb Central,” Teders said in an email statement. “I look forward to building upon the outstanding opportunities we offer our students and continuing to build strong relationships with all stakeholders.”

Teders, 45, will earn a based salary of $110,000 under a three-year deal. He will start the job July 1.

“We are excited to introduce Mr. Teders as our new superintendent,” stated DeKalb Central School Board President Bruce Buttermore in a statement. “His vision for student success and his commitment to continuing to move the District into a 21st century learning environment is shared by the Board.  He is a respected educator and leader with a strong work ethic, who is highly dedicated to the students and families in the district. He takes great pride in supporting and building relationships with all stakeholders and we are confident of his ability to partner with us in leading DeKalb Central Schools into the future.”

Teders is a graduate of East Noble High School. He has an undergraduate degree from Ball State and an administrative degree from IPFW. Teders lives in Auburn with his wife, Tammy, and their three children.
