Trine University in Angola will Friday host the fourth annual Innovation Challenge. The competition aims to find the best new concepts in technology and business from university, high school and community entrants.

Twenty finalists from will have their projects on display at the event, with the first place winner taking home $2,500 in cash. Second and third places will also win $1,000 and $500, respectively. Judges will also award prizes for Best High School Entry, Best University Entry and Best Community Entry.

One of the ideas that will be featured in the challenge is "ShoEye," which are shoes outfitted with a SONAR device to assist visually-challenged people by locating obstacles in their path. Trine says other technologies on display include a wrist band that can detect when the wearer is entering sleep paralysis and methods to shield from or take control of hostile drone technology.

The public innovation expo will take place from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. in the Rick L. and Vicki L. James University Center on the Angola campus. Admission is free.
