Trine University has announced a $6.6 million expansion to its Best Hall of Science. The project includes a 26,000 square-foot addition and additional parking.

The Best Hall of Science houses the Jannen School of Arts & Sciences. The university says the addition will include seven laboratories for biology, chemistry and multipurpose uses, 12 offices and two group study spaces.

"The continuing success of the Invest in Excellence campaign makes it possible to tackle this addition," said Trine President Earl D. Brooks II. "We are grateful for our generous donors who enable us to make the campus even better for our students."

The addition will be named the Rinker-Ross Memorial Center for the Sciences. It is named after Trine alum Dr. James Rinker, who designated a $1.5 million estate gift for the addition.

The university will hold a ground breaking ceremony in early May with construction expected to begin May 9. Construction on the parking area will begin in April and is expected to be completed by May 1.

The university anticipates the addition opening by January 2017.
