More than 50 Parkview Whitley Hospital employees will lose their jobs in early September because parent organization Parkview Health is selling its skilled-nursing and assisted-living facilities in Columbia City.

In a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act letter dated June 17 and sent to the Indiana Department of Workforce Development, Dena Jacquay, Parkview Health’s vice president of human resources, wrote that Parkview Oaks, 411 N. Wolf Road, and Parkview Pointe, 413 N. Wolf Road, will be sold to Miller’s Health Systems.

Employees were informed in March 2013 of the sale. About 52 full-time positions will be eliminated as a result of the sale. According to Parkview Health, Miller’s Health Systems intends to employ a portion of the affected workers.

In addition, Parkview Whitley Hospital, through which the affected workers are employed, is offering severance benefits and transition programs.

Parkview Health expects to begin permanently laying off the workers between Sept. 1 and Sept. 14.
