LARWILL, Ind. (21Alive) -- 5 years ago Tad Varga and his wife Kim were visiting her brother in Asia when they spotted some antique birdcages. Tad sold them on ebay. They went back and brought over some furniture. One thing lead to another and pretty soon, they were designing their own pieces.

Tad says: We started developing our own product lines. We started at Shipshewana…had a little booth on the weekends.

They called themselves "3 Birds" and they are now a multi-million dollar company based in Larwill.

Tad Varga says:" We sell luxury patio furniture, made out of teakwood and wicker and we ship….we just did Jessica Alba's house about 3 weeks ago. Doing a movie set in LA in about two weeks. We did the entire St. Andrew's golf course in Scotland.

They design a whole line of things for LL Bean, and are in several other catalogues as well. They have showrooms in Atlanta, Chicago and Dallas.

The furniture is made out of Teak, in Indonesia where they have 5 employees who oversee the operation. They have a small group in Larwill and also some salespeople scattered around.

It was a tough first couple of years. But very much worth it. Tad left his day job about three years in so he could help grow the business.

Tad Varga Says: Go for it! You're gonna learn from your mistakes. Learn em early and try not to make em again. Try to make more good decisions than bad decisions.

Tad praised the Whitley county Economic development organization for their assistance as 3 Birds grew their wings and flew out of the nest.

Tad Varga Says:
If you ever go visit a beautiful resort and settle into a finely crafted chair on the veranda….it might just be a nest designed by 3 birds!
