Improve Projects PrioritizedNovember 22, 2016
The Mayors and Commissioners Caucus and the LEDO Council prioritized transportation projects outlined in the Regional Interstate Access Assessment for this legislative session. The Assessment ranks the projects based on economic impact, location and feasibility. The recommendations suggested that U.S. 30 should be a top priority for the state followed by four smaller projects including: State Road 5, a section of U.S. 33, State Road 205 and State Road 8. In November, the U.S. 30 Coalition discussed each county’s progress developing county-specific plans for U.S. 30 improvements. Whitley County heard feedback after hosting a series of public meetings. Allen County worked on mapping the area from the Ohio line to the western border with Whitley County. Kosciusko County explored different options that will best serve businesses and the community. Overall, the coalition focused on the region’s transportation needs along the corridor to prepare for any possible funding from the state should it become available during the next legislative session.

The executive committee for U.S. 30 planned goals for 2016, including: filed as a 501(c)(6), established articles of incorporation and bylaws, added members, and hired a consultant to move the U.S. 30 corridor forward. A U. S. 30 Summit in Plymouth brought together more than 36 representatives from Northern Indiana counties who had connections to U.S. 30. Appian, Inc., the consultant hired for the U.S. 30 Study commissioned by OrthoWorx, presented its findings. The study concluded that taking U.S. 30 to freeway standards was necessary for future growth and development.

The Regional Partnership joined the Regional Chamber of Northeast Indiana and Greater Fort Wayne, Inc. to announce progress made during the 2014 state legislative session. That progress included securing $30 million in INDOT funding for the Lafayette Center Road extension. This extension had been a priority for years and had recently been the focus of advocacy at a regional level, in large part by the Infrastructure Task Force.

The Infrastructure Task Force approved the Regional Spine, a specialized map that identified the key transportation arteries both in and out of Northeast Indiana. Through its work on the Economic Development Impact Profiles and the Regional Spine, the task force learned how INDOT evaluates projects and used those recommendations to lobby as a region for more collective impact.

Economic Development Impact Profile ProposedFebruary 1, 2013
Vision 2020 convened the Infrastructure Task Force to develop a tool to measure the economic impact of infrastructure projects throughout Northeast Indiana. Known as the Economic Development Impact Profile (EDIP), this tool provided information on pending projects and potential new development. The ROC allocated $35,000 to support the hiring of a consultant to assist the LEDOs with completing EDIPs for interstate projects in their counties. The Infrastructure Task Force and the consultant developed a scoring mechanism that will be used by the LEDOs to prioritize the list and that can be used in the future as projects arise.
