Fort Wayne -
Junk food Alley, Bed Races and the River Excursions turn for another year as part of the Three Rivers Festival. The 48th annual festival runs from Friday July 8 – Saturday July 16.
This year’s theme is “Celebrate History” as Indiana celebrates 200 years of statehood. Since 1969 the Three Rivers Festival has grown to a large nine-day community-wide celebration. Headwaters Park will host 80 official and affiliated Three Rivers Festival events.
Some of the events include Art in the Park, the Raft Race and Children’s Fest. Musical groups from across the country will perform every day of the festival including Better Than Ezra, Sister Hazel and Cracker. Multiple streets will be closed throughout the festival but the Fort Wayne Police Department announced alternative routes earlier this year.
Three Rivers President Shawna Nicelley and Jack Hammer stopped by First News Sunday to talk about some of the new features this year. To view their full interview click on the video above. Festival officials are also always looking for volunteers to help throughout the 9-day event.
The festival kicks off Friday July 8 with the Downtown Midway opening up at 11 a.m. in Headwaters Park East & West. The parade is Saturday June 9 . WANE-TV personalities will take part in the parade walking with Honor Flight Northeast Indiana.
