ANGOLA — An educational foundation and Steuben County Economic Development Corp. announced a scholarship program Thursday geared to advanced manufacturing students.
Questa Education Foundation and SCEDC offer the Questa Scholars Program for those working toward an advanced manufacturing degree. The funding for the program is intended to increase awareness and need in Steuben County for skilled advanced manufacturing employees.
The program offers low-interest forgivable loans that can be used to assist with tuition, fees, books or transportation costs for scholars enrolled in the advance manufacturing program through Ivy Tech Northeast.
The foundation will forgive scholars’ loan balance if they live and work in northeastern Indiana for five years after completion of degree. Students will receive an additional 25 percent forgiveness at program completion.
The program allows students to borrow up to $2,500 a semester as they are completing their degree program. The 75-percent forgiveness feature combined with the low fixed interest rate after graduation makes the program a low-cost loan option.
“This program is about investing in individuals who are seeking further education. It is gap funding but more important it is an investment in developing talent that is needed in our communities. The goals of Questa are simple: We want to increase access to post-secondary education, help students complete with reduced debt, and retain the talent in northeast Indiana,” said Marc Levy, Questa executive director.
Questa is a nonprofit foundation serving Northeast Indiana and is dedicated to increasing access to education beyond high school, reduced debt and retention of talent.
