The Angola area ranks tied for 10th on the Top 100 Micropolitans in the United States list from Site Selection Magazine for the seventh year in a row, making the list 12 out of the last 13 years.
In 2018, Steuben County had seven projects that qualified to make this list based in Angola. In 2017 Angola ranked 10th, tied with seven other communities, with six projects.
Site Selection’s Conway Projects Database focuses on new corporate facility projects with significant impact, including headquarters, manufacturing plants, R&D operations and logistics sites, among others. It does not track retail and government projects, or schools and hospitals.
“The City of Angola, Steuben County and the Steuben County Economic Development Corporation are truly excited about being listed again on the Top Micropolitan list for 2018. Ranking tied for 10th for the second time in two years, is the highest our community has ranked. Ranking on this list is an honor. This is a testament to the many organizations and individuals that partner to achieve this award. Furthermore, to be listed with other Northeast Indiana communities just goes to show that we have a lot to offer here in the region,” said Isaac Lee, executive director, of the SCEDC.
New facilities and expansions included in the analyses must meet at least one of three criteria:
- involve a capital investment of at least $1 million;
- create at least 20 new jobs; or
- add at least 20,000 square feet of new floor area.
A micropolitan is defined as a community between 10,000 and 50,000 people covering at least one county.
