News Release

Fort Wayne, Ind., June 6, 2012 - AT&T has announced the expansion of its mobile Internet network from Fort Wayne to the Michigan state line along I-69. Also part of the expansion are north Angola and Fremont. The network enhancements extend access for advanced mobile services, devices and feature-rich audio and video content to customers who travel, live or work in these areas.

"Investment in the wireless infrastructure upon which many of the jobs of the future will depend not only improves the quality of life for our citizens, it also helps build our local economy," said Mike Landram, president and CEO of the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce. "As we compete with other regions, states and countries for jobs and investment, it is critical that we have access to this technology so that we can better tell the story of why Northeast Indiana is a great place for businesses to invest and grow."

From 2009 through 2011, AT&T invested more than $1 billion in its wireless and wireline networks in Indiana. AT&T is an industry leader in delivering the benefits of mobile Internet networks, devices and applications. With the nation's fastest mobile Internet network, AT&T provides accelerated mobile data speeds and simultaneous voice and data capabilities for an amazing wireless voice and data experience.

"The business and community leadership in Northeast Indiana has taken a strategic approach to create an environment primed to attract investment from companies across the globe," said AT&T Indiana President George S. Fleetwood. "They understand the direct connection between wireless investment and economic growth and we look forward to more announcements like this in the future."

AT&T's mobile Internet network is based on the 3rd Generation Partnership Project (3GPP) family of technologies that includes GSM and UMTS, the most widely used wireless network platforms in the world. AT&T has the broadest international coverage of any U.S. wireless provider, providing access to voice service in more than 225 countries and data service in more than 200 countries. AT&T also offers voice and data roaming coverage on more than 135 major cruise ships, as well as mobile Internet services in more than 130 countries.

"Demand for wireless bandwidth is growing rapidly, and we want to meet that demand for our customers," said Brian Ducharme, vice president and general manager, AT&T Indiana and Michigan. "We're excited to expand mobile Internet along this major highway and nearby homes and businesses; and into north Angola and Fremont."

AT&T also operates the nation's largest Wi-Fi network** with more than 30,000 hotspots in the U.S. and provides access to nearly 225,000 hotspots globally through roaming agreements. Most AT&T smartphone customers get access to our entire national Wi-Fi network at no additional cost, and Wi-Fi usage doesn't count against customers' monthly wireless data plans.
